Czech Slovak Roots Project is an independent genealogy resource for people with Czech and Slovak ancestry. The articles are written and maintained by the Czech Slovak Roots Editorial Team, and the aim is simple: to make it easier to move from family stories to documented records, and to explain clearly what the records, the laws and the tools can and cannot do.
What we publish
Our guides cover Czech and Slovak genealogy research, the regions Czech and Slovak families came from, surnames, citizenship by descent, DNA testing and heritage travel. You can browse by topic from the home page or begin with the starter guide.
Our standards
- Every fact that could be wrong or out of date, such as laws, access rules and archive portals, is checked against an official or primary source before it is published.
- Anything that can change is dated, for example “as of October 2026”.
- Example families used to illustrate a point are invented and are always labeled as illustrative composites, never presented as real people.
- We do not publish made-up reviews, ratings or testimonials.
- Free public resources, including regional archives and FamilySearch, are cited as sources. We never put affiliate links on them.
